EPL predictions: 2021-22 season preview
The 2021-22 Premier league season starts 82 days after Manchester City were crowned the champions after finishing the last season with 86 points. The competition is contested among 20 teams. The one with the most points at the end of the season is crowned.
EPL teams that finish in the top 4 automatically qualify for the UEFA Champions League while the team that finishes in fifth position qualifies for the UEFA Europa League. If the FA Cup winner is among the top 5 teams of the league, the sixth-placed team also qualifies for the Europa League while the seventh-placed club qualifies for the newly formed UEFA Conference League. The bottom three will be relegated to the Championship while the top three in the Championship will be promoted for the 2022-23 EPL season.
England Premier League table predictions are offered on Takebet UK as well as Barclays Premier League tips for betting on the top goal scorer and the player of the year.

EPL predictions this week will cover matches of all these teams!
Manchester City won the 2020-21 Premier League after finishing with 86 points, which was 13 points above second-placed Manchester United. The Citizens have now won three of the last five Premier League titles. With the signing of Jack Grealish on a record deal, Manchester City now have lots of options in the attacking phase while still defensively very strong as they conceded the least amount of goals in the Premier League last season.
The Citizens’ most important player is Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian international won his second PFA Players' Player of the Year award in 2021 after another good season. De Bruyne holds the joint-record for the most assists in a single Premier League season (20), while also creating second most chances in a single Premier League season in history (136).
Other key players of Manchester City apart from De Bruyne:
- Jack Grealish
- Raheem Sterling
- Ruben Dias
- Riyad Mahrez
- Phil Foden
Chelsea won the 2020-21 Champions League since Thomas Tuchel took over in January. The Blues were 10th in the Premier League table when he took over and finished fourth while also reaching the FA Cup final. They also won the 2021 UEFA Super Cup on penalties, making it two European trophies in seven months for the German manager.
Tuchel was quick to change the team’s formation to 3-4-3 with two central midfielders and two fullbacks high up the pitch. With a back five without the ball under Tuchel, Chelsea were able to keep the most clean sheets (11) while conceding the fewest goals (13), conceding the fewest big chances (14) and the least shots in the box (74) in the Premier League.
Chelsea look to have fixed their only problem which is conversion of chances, with the signing of Romelu Lukaku on a club record deal of £97.5m from Inter Milan. His hold-up play, finishing, ability to create chances and pace on counterattack makes him a perfect fit.
N'Golo Kante is key to Chelsea: he covers everywhere on the pitch, and there is even a saying that “70% of the world is covered by water, the rest by Kante”. The French midfielder is an energetic player with the ability to win the ball back and progress the play. Kante’s performances in the Champions League earned him four man of the match awards.
Other key players of Chelsea apart from Kante and Lukaku:
- Mason Mount
- Kai Havertz
Manchester United finished second in the table in the 2020-22 EPL with 74 points. The Red Devils are yet to win a trophy in five years with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still waiting for his first title after finishing as runner-up in the Premier League and Europa League last season.
Cristiano Ronaldo is back in United after 12 years. Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games before making the switch for Real Madrid in 2009. The Red Devils announced they've agreed a deal to bring him back with the fee rumored to be about €15m initially, plus €8m in bonuses. Man Utd were swift to respond in the transfer market after they lost the Europa League final to Villarreal on penalties.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be key to United’s success in the 2021-22 Premier League. He is the highest goalscorer in football history with 783 goals. The Red Devils bought Cristiano for €19m from Sporting CP in 2003. Ronaldo won his first Ballon d'Or in 2008 while playing for United. After joining Real Madrid in 2009, he won four Champions League titles and four more Ballon d’Or awards before joining Juventus in 2018. With Juve, Ronaldo won the Serie A in 2018-19 and 2019-20 while finishing as the highest goalscorer in 2020-21 with 29 goals.
Bruno Fernandes produced world-class numbers in the Premier League last season with 30 goals contributions. Bruno finished with the third most goals in the 2020-21 Premier League season (18) while overperforming his expected goals of 16.1. This Manchester United midfielder also provided the second most assists in the Premier League last season (12) while creating the most big chances in the league (20).
The Red Devils finally signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a deal worth up to £73m. The 19-year-old joined after an impressive spell with Dortmund where he was one of the two players to score 30+ goals and complete 30+ assists in Europe since the 2018-19 season. Manchester United also signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. Varane is a four-time Champions League winner with Madrid. Manchester United now have a good squad with wealthy attacking options as well as good defensive options.
Other key players of Manchester United apart from Ronaldo and Fernandes:
- Paul Pogba
- Mason Greenwood
- Marcus Rashford
- Edinson Cavani
- Harry Maguire
Liverpool struggled during last season's campaign as they lost a lot of players to injury including Virgil Van Dijk. The Reds later finished third in the Premier League after lots of ups and downs during the season. Liverpool made only one transfer during the window bringing in Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig for a deal worth up to £36m. They remain one of the favourites to win the 2021-22 EPL and repeat their 2019-20 success.
Key player for Liverpool is Mohamed Salah, the record-holder for the most goals in a single Premier League Season (32), who finished last season with the second most goals in the League (22). Salah will be looking to continue that form to keep the Reds going.
Virgil Van Dijk is also back from injury, which means the Reds defence will be better as they will most likely concede fewer goals than they did last season.
Other key players of Liverpool apart from Salah and Van Dijk:
- Sadio Mane
- Jordan Henderson
- Trent Alexander-Arnold
- Andrew Robertson
Tottenham will be a real force in the 2021-22 Premier League with Harry Kane announcing his stay. Spurs sacked Jose Mourhino last season and announced Nuno Espírito Santo as their new manager. Tottenham finished seventh in the table and qualified for the newly formed UEFA Conference League. Spurs signed Cristian Romero from Serie A side Atalanta for a fee in the region of £42m while also signing Bryan Gil from Spanish Sevilla.
Harry Kane will be undoubtedly key for Tottenham this season. Kane won the EPL Golden Boot award last season scoring 23 goals while providing the most assists (14). The England captain is one of the best players in the Premier League with his exceptional goal scoring ability. Kane and Son have created a formidable duo finishing with the best Premier League combination between two players in English Premier League history.
Other key players of Tottenham apart from Kane and Son:
- Lucas Moura
- Dele Alli
- Hugo Lloris
Downfall of Arsenal has been evident over the years. The Gunners went from winning the league unbeaten to making just the top 4 and qualifying for Champions League, and then to failing the UCL qualification while playing Europa League. And last season, Arsenal finished eighth while failing to qualify for European competitions for the first time in 25 years.
The Gunners were quick to respond in the transfer window as they spent the most money in the Premier League this summer. Arsenal signed Ben White from Brighton for £50m while also signing Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid for about £30m. The Gunners brought in a new goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United, for about £30m. Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga were also signed during the summer transfer window.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still remains the Gunners’ most important player even though he was poor during the 2020-21 campaign. The Gabonese has scored the most goals for Arsenal in the Premier League (64) while winning the Golden Boot in the 2018-19 season.
Other key players of Arsenal apart from Aubameyang:
- Bukayo Saka
- Emile Smith Rowe
- Alexandre Lacazette
